16th Annual Bobby Bryant Championship
The Bobby Bryant Championship is named in memory of the late Bobby Bryant, a former PBCGA president, long-time executive board member and five-time Volunteer of the Year. He was inducted into the PBCGA Hall of Fame in 2001.
The Palm Beach County Golf community lost one of its most dedicated and popular figures when Bobby Bryant died on December 7, 2003. A PGA club professional who regained his amateur status, the Dayton Ohio, native joined the Palm Beach County Golf Association in 1984. In the years that followed, he served on the PBCGA board in various positions, including chairman. He was responsible for developing the Senior Series, events for players 50 and older.
Bobby was an avid golfer who believed in the rules of the game to the point of becoming a tournament official. A five-time PBCGA Volunteer of the Year (1999-2003), Mr. Bryant was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Bobby Bryant Championship has been named in his honor.
He was born on May 1, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio. Bobby graduated from Ohio University in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a First Lieutenant in Munich, Germany from 1960 to 1963.
Always the entrepreneur, Bobby owned and operated the 741 Golf Center in Dayton, Ohio for a dozen years before moving to Florida in 1977 to become a Realtor. A resident of Palm Beach Gardens for 24 years, Bobby was the first salesman at PGA National Resort Community, leaving in 1986 to open Bryant Realty Brokers, Inc. with his wife, Suzy.
The individual stroke play competition will be hosted at Indian Spring County Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.
The competition will consist of Open (49 and younger), Senior (50-59) and Super Senior (60+) contests with points awarded towards each of the PBCGA Points Races: Open Points Cup, Senior Points Cup and the Super Senior Points Cup.
