The PBCGA's oldest championships have been part of the calendar for 45 to 50 years. The “Pricey” Stroke Play doesn't have that pedigree — but 21 playings is still a milestone, and it's one this championship has earned the hard way: nine years building the tradition at Quail Valley, a chapter at Orchid Island, and now two years carrying it forward at Indian River Club. Different courses, same drive up I-95, same test of what a competitor can do 36 holes from home.

Players who've made the trip before know the routine by now: the drive, the check-in, the unfamiliar greens that reward patience over power. Newcomers inherit more than a decade of stories spread across three different clubs — about who's held up under that pressure, and who hasn't, once the leaderboard tightens on Sunday afternoon far from home.

That history has also made this one of the more enjoyable trips on the calendar. Most competitors grab a hotel for the weekend, spend Saturday evening along the beach, and work through the local seafood spots before Sunday's final round — a small tradition that's grown up right alongside the championship itself.
