— There is a particular kind of season that does not show up in any single leaderboard. It is built week after week, from a T3 here and a runner-up there, and it only looks like a runaway when you add it all up. Stephen Anderson’s 2026 was that kind of season. The Hobe Sound player finished the year with 1,360 points, 232.5 more than runner-up Ryan Howison, and he is the PBCGA’s 2026 Senior Player of the Year, presented by The Golf Crypt. It is his fourth consecutive Senior Player of the Year title.

The Season

The Numbers Behind the Title

Anderson played 14 events and made the cut in all 14. He finished in the top 10 in every one of them. Four were wins, five were runner-up finishes, and two were third-place finishes. At 56, he never had a bad week, and in a division where the points race ran all the way to the final round of the Tour Championship, that was the whole story.

The Wins

Four Wins, Four Different Stages

His first win came early, at the 20th Bobby Bryant Stroke Play on PGA National’s Dye Course, where rounds of 75 and 74 were good enough for a 149 and the trophy. Two weeks later, he won the County Amateur Qualifier Shootout at Abacoa with a 68.

His third came on August 21 at the DraftKings Shootout & Match Play Qualifier at Jonathan’s Landing, where he shot 68 and tied Brian Casey at 4-under to force a playoff. Anderson birdied the second extra hole, the par-4 12th, to win, and with it earned the top seed in the Senior-Amateur Match Play bracket.

His fourth, on October 3 and 4, came at the 36th Kibbey, Wagner & Blum FourBall at BallenIsles. Teaming with Joe Rice, Anderson shot a 67 on Sunday, 5 under, to turn a one-shot deficit into a two-shot win at 7-under 137. The pairing made nine birdies and an eagle along the way, the most of any Senior team.

Near Misses

The Second Places That Mattered

Anderson’s five second-place finishes are the reason the margin grew as wide as it did. He tied for second at the Senior Partners Best Ball/Alternate Shot, at the 30th Amateur Stroke Play, and at the Kepler Classic. He finished second at the Palm Beach Stableford, closing with a 63. And he ended the season by tying for second at the Tour Championship at Mayacoo Lakes, where he posted a 145 in rain and wind, the same score as Frank Babusik, six shots behind Jon Eggleton.

Add a T3 at the Tommy Belen Better Ball and another at the “Pricey” Stroke Play, plus a fifth at the Senior Amateur and a T4 at the Abacoa Junior Senior, and the result is a points total no one else in the division could match across a full season.

The History

A Long History at the Top

Anderson has been a force in PBCGA competition for years. He and Pete Williams hold the Abacoa Junior Senior record with four titles together (2010, 2011, 2013, and 2016), and with R.J. Nakashian he won three straight Open titles at the Kibbey, Wagner & Blum FourBall from 2011 through 2013, then returned in 2024 to win the Senior Division there. This year he combined that experience with a week-in, week-out steadiness that is rare at any level, and it has now earned him four Senior Player of the Year titles in a row.

The Chase

Behind the Champion

Ryan Howison, who won the Palm Beach Stableford and finished tied for fifth at the Tour Championship, took second at 1,127.50 points. Jon Eggleton played only four events and still finished third with 815 after winning the Tour Championship, the Senior Amateur, and the Amateur Four Ball. Mike Nealy was fourth at 766.25 and Frank Babusik fifth at 672.50.
