PBCGA Community News

Golf Community grieves the loss of Kevin Butler, Sr.

County Amateur Champion - 1977

Hall of Fame - 2012

Volunteer of The Year - 2017

Kevin Francis Butler, 79, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on April 11, 2025.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents John Paul Butler, Sr. and Marie Conroy Butler and his sister-in-law Penny Butler.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynne Anthony Butler; sons, Kevin II (Tracy), Scott (Lisa), and Stephen (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Kevin III “Tripp”, Bobby, Mary Elynne, Brennen, Finn, and Emerson; siblings, John P. Butler, Jr. and Jane (Villere) Reggio, brother-in-law Emile Anthony III (Mary) and sister-in-law Susan Carmichael (Laird) and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin, the youngest of 3 siblings, grew up in Palm Beach and attended St. Ann’s Catholic School. After proudly serving as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, Kevin earned a B.S. in Building Construction from the University of Florida and joined his father at Butler & Oenbrink. In 1978, he founded Butler Construction Company, which continues to leave an indelible mark on the Palm Beach County landscape. He took great pride in seeing his sons follow in his footsteps and truly enjoyed working alongside each of them.

Kevin married the love of his life, Lynne, and together they raised their boys with a love of golf and fishing. Kevin was an avid golfer and enjoyed an award winning amateur golf career including a win at the Palm Beach County Amateur Championship in 1977. He was a founding member Mayacoo Lakes Country Club where he won the Club Championship eight times. Giving back to the sport that he loved,

Kevin served as the President and Rules Official for both the Palm Beach County and Southern Golf Associations. In 2012 he was inducted into the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Palm Beach County Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Kevin could always be found with the “Barracudas” on Saturday mornings at Mayacoo for golf with the guys and an afternoon “catch up 9.” At home, Kevin shared the love of the game with his family. Some of his fondest memories were made playing the country’s finest courses with his wife and sons. For over 50 years, Kevin was a fixture at the Leon “Pop” Sikes Father-Son golf tournament at Atlantis, playing with his own father and then his three sons.

Fishing was a favorite pastime, and in one “Weak Moment” he and Lynne would buy their first boat (of the same name). He loved to be at the helm for a smooth cocktail crossing with friends and family to enjoy fishing and fun at Walker’s Cay. Kevin was a devoted Florida Gator Football fan and enjoyed cheering them on. He may have even thrown his own visor a time or two. Kevin loved a good joke and was a great storyteller, He was always laughing and was the life of the party no matter where he went.

Kevin’s legacy lives on through his family and friends. May his memory remind us all to smile more and laugh often.

Visitation will be held at Quattlebaum Funeral Home located at 5411 Okeechobee Blvd on Thursday 4/24/25 from 4-7 p.m.
